EVV, or Electronic Visit Verification, is an electronic system used to verify authorized services and provide electronic proof. The 21st Century Cures Act was put into place to help reduce fraudulent claims that were being submitted during the paper timesheet era. Therefore to be reimbursed for visits, agencies must provide details of the visit, including the work performed, hours spent, notes, accurate location, and patient-caregiver interaction.

There are six requirements for EVV:

  1. Date of service
  2. Location of service delivery 
  3. Type of service provided
  4. Details of the Caregiver providing the service
  5. Details of Patient receiving the service
  6. Time at which the service begins and ends.
